Turkmenistan to abolish free electricity, gas and water supply to population from 2019 Energy
Turkmenistan will introduces fees for consumption of gas, electricity, drinking water, which were previously free of charge for the population of the country, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced at the first meeting of the restored Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) on September 25, the President’s Office reports.
The Turkmen president said that the benefits of free consumption of gas, electricity, water, salt, as well as minimum tariffs for utilities and other benefits were introduced during the difficult transition period.
Now that the income of the population, according to Berdimuhamedov, has significantly grown, and every family has opportunities for earning money, it's time to think preservation of resources for future generations.
A new tariff policy will be introduced for saving resources purposes, he assured.
Berdimuhamedov signed the resolution endorsing abolishing of free supply of electricity, gas, drinking water and table salt to the population starting from January 1, 2019.
Free use of gas, water and electricity was introduced in Turkmenistan in 1993 by the first president Saparmurat Niyazov. Abolition of free gas, electricity and water supply for the people of Turkmenistan was announced in 2017.
