Iran willing to mediate in Azerbaijan, Armenia tension: MP Political and military events
A member of the Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy quoted a Foreign Ministry staff member saying that Iran is considering consultation and mediation to help cease recent armed clashes between Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Ebrahim Aqamohammadi told IRNA that members of the commission in a meeting on Monday with the Iranian diplomat reviewed on-going developments in the disputed Karabakh region.
'According to the expert's report, disputes and clashes have been going on between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the past years which have to be setteled,' said the lawmaker.
The MP reiterated that Iran follows the policy of impartiality in the clashes so that the clashes do not continue and result in a ceasefire.
'The Foreign Ministry expert said it has been decided that Mr. (Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad) Zarif hold consultations with the Azeri and Armenian foreign ministers in order to end these clashes which we hope will terminate as soon as possible,' Aqamohammadi said.
