Within a year Iran to open Caspian Sea’s largest port - a direct competitor for Baku trade port Investment

IIKSS- Iran is to open the largest port in the Caspian Sea within a year, and the future port is going to be a direct competitor of the Baku International Sea Trade Port.
Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company reports that its chairman Rauf Veliyev received in Baku the representatives of Iran’s Caspian port Amirabad.
During the meeting Kamal Abdullahi, a representative of the contractor company for the port construction, informed that construction work in Amirabad would be finished within a year.
"Start-up of the ferry terminal in the port will increase cargo transshipment in the Caspian Sea," Abdullahi emphasized.
At that, he showed an interest to Azerbaijan’s experience in the construction of ferry terminals and management of ferry-type vessels.
Veliyev expressed an opinion that the meeting will create new opportunities for economic cooperation.
"The launch of the ferry terminal in Amirabad will enable to implement a range of other projects," Veliyev believes.
He reminded that ACSC, having 13 ferries and 2 ro-ro vessels in its fleet, is the only ferry operator in the Caspian Sea.
"These days the Baku shipbuilding factory will begin cutting of the metal for the hull of new type vessel Ro-Pax," Veliyev said.
Iran sees Amirabad a golden link of international transit corridor North-South in its eastern format.
Special-economic zone in the Amirabad port is designed in three stages. The first stage includes 14 berths, the second and third ones by 10 berths each, that makes together 34 berths, the improvement of which will turn the port into the largest and most important port on the Caspian coast.
