IIKSS- On February 22 in Tashkent, in the framework of the upcoming 16th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the President of Kazakhstan’s national railways company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) Kanat Alpysbayev held talks with the heads of Uzbekistan’s railways company O’zbekiston Temir Yo’llari to discuss further development of cooperation in the railway transport sector, the press service of KTZ said.
During the meeting the sides reached an agreement on granting discounts on tariffs for export transportation of Kazakhstani grain and flour, Kazakhstani goods in refrigerated 45 ft. containers through Uzbekistan, as well as transit transportation of Uzbek fruit and vegetables and other agricultural products through the territory of Kazakhstan.
Representative of both countries discussed the possibility of organizing Uzbek export and import transportation through the Kazakh Caspian seaports of Aktau and Kuryk on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
Following the meeting JSC KTZ–Freight Transportation and JSC O’zbekiston Temir Yo’llari signed an Agreement on electronic exchange of data on goods imported into the territory of Kazakhstan, the volume of the consignment note and accompanying commercial documents.
Last year saw a growth of cargo transportation by railway transport between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, with the volume of traffic amounting to 19 million tons.
