River Sea Tows Black Sea Vessel Investment
Russian transportation firm River Sea Shipping Company has completed towage operations for two strips of a diving support vessel from the Black Sea to Baku in Azerbaijan.
The strips from support vessel Khankendi were delivered via the Russian South river route, connecting Azov with Astrakhan, and will be used for future assembling and operation in Caspian sea.
The strips each weighed about 7,000 tonnes and measured 140 meters in length, 15.5 meters in width and 2.7 meters draft.
Offloading operation of both strips was performed using three tugs and the semi-submersible vessel Osprey in Black Sea neutral waters. The cargo include the biggest and the heaviest towing units ever to have passed through Volgo-Don Canal.
The project team from River Sea provided engineering support and consulting during the project including towage manual, special measurements of safe towage through the inland system with local authority’s approval and assistance during offloading operation. The team also collaborated with advisors from the Marine Warranty Survey organization Global Maritime and Noble Denton.
