Ex-chief of KNB detained on suspicion of divulging state secrets Political and military events
IIKSS - Former Chairman of the National Security Committee (KNB) of Kazakhstan and former advisor to the President was apprehended and pre-trial investigation of several public officials is underway, the KNB said in a statement.
“Nartai Dutbayev, Nurlan Khasen, and Yerlan Nurtayev were apprehended on suspicion of divulgence of state secrets and under Article 362 paragraph 3 (abuse of power and office) of Criminal Code of Kazakhstan through operational investigative work,” the KNB statement said.
All three are held in pre-trial detention facility. Their and their relatives' places of residence were raided and material evidence was seized, KNB said.
Investigation is ongoing and its additional results will be announced.
Nartai Dutbayev has headed the KNB from December 2001 until February 2006.
In 2008, he served as advisor to the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
In 2008-2009, he was the Vice President of Kazatomprom state-run atomic company.
