Azerbaijan: EU brings more opportunities for women in the regions Political and military events
IIKSS - A new resource centre for women was opened last week in the city of Bilasuvar in Azerbaijan as part of a joint EU and UN Development Programme (UNDP) project. The centre will serve as a public platform to plan and coordinate women’s economic and social initiatives, and provide different opportunities for capacity building, entrepreneurial activity, vocational education and creative self-expression.
"The Centre will help to promote the important role of women as active members of the society and increase many possibilities of good support structures for female participation in various fields," EU Ambassador Malena Mard said in her speech during the opening ceremony.
To this date, the Women Resource Centres have mobilised 416 female members, facilitated training for over 350 women, helped to start or improve more than 50 female-led businesses, and reached over 450 children, women and men in awareness-raising campaigns on violence and gender issues.
Within the event, the EU Delegation and UNDP representatives also visited two start-up businesses to see a female-run clothing store and a beauty shop selected under the project.
The joint EU-UNDP project ‘Enabling civil society to play a greater role in advancing gender equality and women’s rights’ aims to increase the role of civil society in advancing women’s rights and to promote economic and social participation of rural women through civil society organisations.
