Grain shipments to Iran from Russian river ports remained the main driver of Caspian freight market

In the Caspian Sea grain freight rates kept rising supported by grain shipments to Iran from Russian river ports. According to UkrAgroConsult, at the end of last week ship owners asked at least USD 35/MT for 3 KMT cargo transportation from Volgograd in Amirabad, but charterers were not ready to pay more than USD 30-31/MT.

Despite the fact that shortage of cargo base was still observed in Astrakhan, the absence of free tonnage in the northern part of the region due to outflow of "river-sea" vessels to inland waterways and engagement of ore-bulk-oil carrier on transit routes provoked rates increase.

More information on freight market is available to subscribers for weekly market report "Black Sea Grain & Oil" by UkrAgroConsult.
