Putin, Erdogan to meet in Russia soon
The Kremlin has announced that the Presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will meet in the first half of August.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov stated that the high level meeting is being prepared by the respective diplomatic channels, and will be held on Russian territory, but the exact date and location are still to be confirmed.
The meeting, to take place at the beginning of August, will be the first between Putin and Erdogan in almost 8 months of tensions after the downing of a Russian Su-24 fighter plane by Turkish fighters.
Erdogan offered Putin his apologies in June and expressed his remorse over the incident in a letter written to Putin.
Two days later, the two Presidents talked on the phone.
It has been reported that the two Turkish pilots who brought the Russian plane down were arrested after the military coup in Turkey, in which at least one was said to have participated.
