Iran, UNEP sign joint action plan for regional cooperation
Iran and the United Nations Environment Program on Friday signed a joint action plan to thwart degradation of environment and disposal of chemical wastes.
The document was signed by Iranian Vice-President and head of Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and the UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner on the sidelines of the Second UNEP Assembly in Nairobi.
The joint action plan was signed in the context of Basel-Stockholm Convention to deal with pollutants and degradation of environment.
The agreement concerns management of disposal of the dangerous chemical wastes and launching research studies about the threats to the environment.
They envisaged to hold at least two technical workshops in the region, set up regional center and data center for the member states and exchange of data about recyclying the wastes of electronic devices in the region.
Ebtekar and Steiner reviewed the latest environment issues in Gaza and the Caspian Sea.
